Our doctors will explain any tests they feel are necessary or helpful, and provide cost information to help guide your decisions. Some tests will be available to take home from the clinic for your convenience.

4. What are some symptoms that might indicate I'm in perimenopause/menopause? During perimenopause and menopause, women may experience a range of physical and emotional symptoms due to hormonal changes. Here is a list of common symptoms: Menstrual Cycle Changes Hot Flashes Night Sweats Sleep Disturbances Mood Swings Vaginal Dryness Decreased Libido Fatigue Memory Issues or "Brain Fog" Breast Tenderness Headaches Urinary Issues Changes in Skin Weight Gain Joint and Muscle Pain Osteoporosis Changes in Hair Increased Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Dry Eyes and Mouth Increased Sensitivity to Stress Symptoms can vary in intensity and duration from woman to woman.

5. Does estrogen therapy put me at high risk for complications such as breast cancer? There has been a lot of debate about estrogen therapy, particularly following studies from the 1990s that raised concerns about a significant increase in breast cancer risk. However, recent research has provided a more nuanced understanding, debunking earlier claims that estrogen therapy alone drastically increases breast cancer risk. Here’s what the most recent evidence tells us: Revised Understanding of Risk Early studies, particularly the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study conducted in the 1990s, suggested a strong link between hormone therapy (including estrogen) and an increased risk of breast cancer. However, more recent research has clarified that the risk is not as high as initially thought and depends largely on the type of therapy used, duration of treatment, and the individual’s health history. Recent Findings and Reevaluation Newer analyses, including updated follow-up from the WHI, have shown that the risks associated with hormone therapy, including breast cancer, are less significant than originally thought, particularly for women who use it for short periods. In fact, the benefits of hormone therapy in reducing severe menopausal symptoms (such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness) may outweigh the risks for many women, especially when used for a limited duration. Risk Factors Are Individual The increased risk of breast cancer related to estrogen therapy is also highly individualized. Factors like age, personal and family medical history, and the presence of other health conditions can all influence the level of risk. Women with a higher genetic risk for breast cancer or a family history of the disease may have a different risk profile, so hormone therapy should be tailored to the individual. Focus on Personalized Care Today’s approach to hormone therapy emphasizes a personalized treatment plan. This includes ongoing discussions with your doctor to evaluate your specific health needs and concerns. With proper monitoring and careful use, estrogen therapy can be a safe and effective option for managing menopause symptoms without significantly increasing cancer risk.
